Version of 2 November 2026
This page concerns the AltosTrip app (iPhone and Android), published by an independent developer in Switzerland. It says how to request deletion, what disappears, what remains, and why. If you signed up, you need neither the app nor to be signed in to make the request: the email address below is enough. Without an account, see below.
On iPhone: More → App settings → Delete my account, right in the list. “Delete my data” is one screen further, behind the first row of those settings — the one showing your email address: More → App settings → your email address → Delete my data.
On Android: More → App settings, section “Your account”: “Delete my data” and “Delete my account” are the last two buttons of the section, right after “Sign out”. The settings also open from the trip list, with the gear at the top left.
Without an account (you use the app without having signed up): deletion happens in the app, Settings → Delete my data; it also deletes your account without sign-up.
Each button asks for a confirmation that spells out what is about to go. Once confirmed, the deletion runs straight away — no cooling-off period, and no way back.
Write to info@altostrip.ch. Your request needs two things, and nothing more:
We ask for no identity document, no phone number, no reason. Please write from the account's own address: if the request comes from another address, we first ask for confirmation at the account's address — otherwise anyone could have someone else's account deleted.
Without an account, an email request is not possible: an account without sign-up has no email address, and nothing could prove that it is yours. It deletes itself, with all its content, 6 months after the app was last opened.
We acknowledge the request and answer within 30 days at the latest — in practice within a few days. The deletion is then run on the server exactly as if you had pressed the button in the app. Any copy left in the app on a phone you still own goes away when you uninstall the app.
| “Delete my data” | All your content goes, your account stays: your email address still signs you in, and a subscription you paid for stays active. You come back to an empty space. This is the one for starting over without losing your account. |
|---|---|
| “Delete my account” | The same purge, plus permanent deletion of the account: your address no longer signs you in, and there is no restore. This is the one for leaving AltosTrip. |
A shared trip does not belong to you alone: deleting it outright would erase the other travellers' expenses and balances. Hence three different treatments.
| Treatment | What |
|---|---|
| Destroyed | Your own trips; your expenses, private ones included; your receipt photos, erased from storage within the following minutes; your cash and trip cards; your payment methods; your votes in the plan's polls still open; the invitations you issued, links and the log of invitations sent by email; your memberships of other people's trips; the local copy on the device making the request. Your other devices are signed out; the copy they hold is not erased remotely, it goes when the app is uninstalled. If someone had entered your email address on a participant card, or had invited you by email, that address is erased too. |
| Handed to the trip | A shared trip you created goes to another member instead of being destroyed: an administrator first, then a member who can edit, then a viewer; for the same role, the longest-standing one. The shared expenses you created stay with the trip, but stripped: your notes, your GPS coordinates, your payment method's label and your receipt photo are erased. The amount, date, category and place remain — without them the group's accounts no longer balance. The notes you wrote on a reimbursement or a cash movement are erased the same way; the reimbursement or the movement remains, with its amount. |
| Anonymised | Your name becomes “Voyageur” wherever it remains — your participant row and the change log — rather than being deleted: deleting a participant would take their expense shares with it and skew the split for everyone. Your answers to the plan (“I'm in”, paid) and your votes in polls already closed stay under that row: an answer counts in the expense created from the activity. The plan's web-link page no longer shows that row. |
| Kept | With “delete my data”: your sign-in account, your email address and your subscription. In both cases: households and manually entered fellow travellers, which have no recorded author — nothing tells those you created from the trip owner's; a shared trip's plan and polls, which have no recorded author either, and its web link, no longer tied to you but valid until a member creates a new one; and, for 180 days at most, the technical identifier of deleted rows — a random code, with no content at all —, which stops a device that stayed offline from bringing them back. |
Four limits it is only honest to state:
The full detail, with its reasons, is in point 8 of the privacy policy.
If you subscribe, deleting your account does not cancel the subscription: the store you paid collects and manages it, not us. Cancel it there, otherwise it renews:
A refund request also goes to that store — Apple or Google Play. The Terms of Use cover this.
Deletion, access, correction, portability, objection: the privacy policy says how to exercise them. For any request, it is the same address: info@altostrip.ch.
