Version of 5 October 2026
These terms govern your use of the AltosTrip app on iPhone and Android. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. They are written to be read: if a question remains, write to us — the answer may well end up in the next version.
What changes compared with the version of 4 September 2026 (points 3 and 6)
AltosTrip is published from Switzerland by an independent developer. Any question about these terms, your account or your subscription goes to info@altostrip.ch.
AltosTrip records the expenses of a shared trip, splits them between participants and works out who owes what to whom. It is a tracking and calculation tool.
It does not move money. It executes no payment, holds no funds, is neither a bank nor a payment service provider, and gives no financial, tax or accounting advice. The balances it shows are decision support: reimbursements happen between the people involved, by whatever means they choose, under their sole responsibility.
Exchange rates come from a public source fed by the European Central Bank. They are indicative: they reflect neither the rate your bank applies nor the fees it charges.
The app can be used without an account: when first opened, it creates an account without sign-up — no email address, no password — that only this phone can reach. To share a trip, subscribe to AltosTrip Pro or find your trips on another device, you need an account, free of charge, created with an email address and a password, or through Google or Apple; it keeps everything you did without an account. Joining someone else's trip does not require an account.
An account is personal. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for what happens under your account. Without an account, losing your phone or deleting the app makes your trips unreachable, and an account without sign-up is deleted with all its content 6 months after the app was last opened.
You must be 16 or older to use the app, with or without an account.
At any time, from the app's settings, you can delete your data or delete your account — without an account, “delete my data” also deletes the account without sign-up. Both are described in detail in the privacy policy, including what cannot be deleted from a shared trip without wrecking the other travellers' records.
You remain responsible for what you enter: amounts, places, notes, receipt photos, and the names or email addresses of the people you add to a trip.
That last point deserves to be said plainly: adding someone to a trip means recording information about them. You undertake to do so only for people who actually take part in the trip, and to tell them you are using AltosTrip to keep the accounts. If one of them asks you to remove their information, do it — the app lets you.
You may not use AltosTrip to enter unlawful content, to impersonate anyone, or to circumvent the technical protections of the app or the service.
A trip is shared: its members see the trip's expenses, their amounts, their places, the receipt photos attached to them, the split and the change log. That is the whole point of the tool.
Two exceptions, enforced by the service: an expense marked private is visible to you alone, and your payment methods catalogue is never shared.
The app is free to use. An optional subscription, AltosTrip Pro, unlocks:
An expense's place, the choice between cash and card when entering it, a trip's icon and its reference currency remain free.
The subscription is tied to your AltosTrip account, on iPhone as on Android: it unlocks these features for you, in all your trips. It does not extend to the other members of your trips: each of them has access to Pro features according to their own account.
| Plan | yearly, CHF 6.00 per year (the price shown in the app prevails; it may differ by country and by your account's currency) |
|---|---|
| Purchase and billing | on iPhone, through Apple's App Store; on Android, through Google Play. Apple or Google collects payment, issues the invoice and manages payment methods — we never see your banking details. |
| Renewal | automatic, unless cancelled before the end of the current period — on iPhone, at least 24 hours before. |
| Cancellation | any time, with the store you paid: on iPhone, in your Apple account settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions); on Android, in the Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the app or your AltosTrip account does not cancel the subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period; Pro features stay active until then. |
| Refunds | governed by the terms of the store you paid — Apple on iPhone, Google Play on Android —; requests go to that store. |
Should we ever change the price, you would be told before the next renewal and free to cancel.
We do our best to keep the service running, without being able to guarantee uninterrupted availability: a failure of the server, of the hosting provider or of your own connection can make synchronisation temporarily unavailable. The app keeps working offline and replays your entries once the connection is back.
Back up what matters to you. The app can export a trip (spreadsheet, PDF): it is the simplest way to keep a copy that depends on nobody. That export is one of the Pro features; on a free account, a copy of your data is available free of charge on request to info@altostrip.ch (see point 9 of the privacy policy).
To the extent permitted by applicable law, we cannot be held liable for indirect damage, for data loss you could have avoided with an export, for a dispute between trip participants, or for a financial decision made on the basis of the amounts displayed. We of course do not limit our liability in case of intent or gross negligence.
You can stop using AltosTrip whenever you like, and delete your account from the app. We may suspend or close an account that endangers the service or seriously breaches these terms — telling you why, and leaving you the chance to export your data where circumstances allow.
These terms may change, for instance as the app gains features. The version in force is always the one published on this page, with its date. A significant change will be announced in the app or by email before it takes effect.
These terms are governed by Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is the publisher's registered seat, subject to mandatory consumer-protection rules that may allow you to bring a claim before the court of your own domicile.
